I always enjoy the Michael Bennett books. This is a short story without a lot of character development. It's easy to read and kept my interest until the end. At least this one had an ending unlike some of the other Bookshots.

The posh hotel in Manhattan was where the man waited â€“ his contact was late, much too late â€“ and he didnâ€™t feel the eyes on him while he sat there. Much later Detective Michael Bennett was called to the scene of a suspected suicide. The construction site beside the posh Manhattan hotel now housed a body which had quite obviously fallen from the heights of the roof beside it. An obvious suicide â€“ but was it?When forensics discovered several anomalies, Bennett was bemused. But worse was to come. What they had found was not possible â€“ so Bennett set out on the trail. But out there were people determined to keep the secrets of the past from being revealed â€“ any way possible.Chase is #9.5 in the Michael Bennett series by James Patterson, and is one in the BookShots series. I enjoyed it but not quite as much as the usual fare with this detective. The full length novels obviously have more space for detail â€“ and though this novella was rounded nicely, I felt more detailed action would have been great in this particular case. I still recommend to lovers of the Bennett series, and am very much looking forward to #9 which will be out soon!

I've been a big fan of the Michael Bennett series but not a fan of short stories. This book changed my mind. It was great! Michael gets himself in hot water as usual but it was a gripping story and it had a great ending. Looking forward to more of these BookShots!

Don't like any of the BookShots. Would rather wait on an entire book. All that I've read just fall short.

I dislike these Hot Shots, they are a rip off of my money and a disappointment to your fans. Quit it.

Not a bad way to spend a cold winter afternoon. As an avid reader of James Patterson, and Detective Michael Bennett, it was an enjoyable read. Different terrain, different kind of story for Mike Bennett, but held my attention. Worth the price of a pleasant afternoon read.

CHASE by James Patterson and Michael Ledwidge. I have always liked to read Pattersonâ€™s NYPD Detective Michael Bennettâ€™s exciting adventures. This novella or bookshot manages to keep the reader alert and turning pages. Our hero, Bennett is sent to investigate what at first appears to be a suicidal jumper from the seventh floor of New Yorkâ€™s Index House Hotel. There is no ID on the guy. The ME extracts the finger prints and it turns out the body is identified as an Air force pilot who had been declared dead years earlier from an aircraft crash in Iraq. Also as the ME works on the body she discovers a condom containing a note with a group of numbers. The bad guys, highly trained professional killers, come after Michael Bennett with a vengeance as he pursues answers in this weird apparent murder. My only criticism is that the story was too shortâ€”I wanted more. Chase makes for an enjoyable long-lunch or evening read. I give the story a 5-star rating.

Do not like product in books . I see enough ads on TV and billboards and radio. I would like to read without ads.

I found myself mad at my 5 year old all the time, and very short tempered around him. It felt like I was always saying 'no' or 'stop that'. It got to the point where I didn't even want to take him anywhere because I didn't want to have to correct him the whole time we were there. In short, I was not having fun being a mom. This book was recommended to me and I started reading it thinking, 'oh my gosh, I do that, is that wrong? Is that why he acts this way? Is that why I act that way?' The book showed me where I had made some poor parenting choices and how re-phrasing things or giving my son real choices he was in charge of could make a big difference. I started changing the way I disciplined him immediately and it has made an immense difference! I've even got my husband to read it because he can see the change in both my son and me. I'm not angry all the time, my son isn't in time-out all the time. We're not fighting about getting dressed and getting in the car, and all the other things that are daily life chores that were once difficult. My style of parenting wasn't working and something had to change. This book made that change happen and has made our house and happier place. Don't get me wrong, there are still hiccups- but it doesn't turn ugly anymore. I only wish that I had known about this book when my son was 3.5 instead of 5, a lot of things could have been avoided!

I read this a few years ago, when my children were small, and it made a huge difference. Becky Bailey knows what she is talking about, and it was enormously helpful. I even made myself a little summary with her main points on it so that I could refer to it often. Then, recently, I decided it was time to read it again, and again I was deeply impressed. This is a book that should be read more than once because it has so much substance in it. Lately I've been giving it to friends and family who are about to have a baby, because I can't think of any other book that would give them better or more practical advice. Don't make the mistake that it only applies to small children. I have found that the ideas she talks about are applicable to any relationship. There are no gimmicks, just a deep understanding of human nature.You may be familiar with the love and logic books. Those have some good ideas, but there's a narrow line between natural consequences and a consequence that really, to be honest, is more of a punishment invented by a frustrated parent. Becky Bailey does not cross that line. She stays on the side of helping you figure out how to best help your child in a loving and effective way. I have enormous respect for her, and would strongly recommend this book for you. When you apply what she says, you will become a better parent.

I heard great things about this book. As a teacher who is now a parent I thought the very beginning came across as condescending. I knew her advice, which was common sense. However, I was patient. I soon grew to discover that the author doesn't talk about "tools" but describes HOW to USE the parent "tools". It's not you average self help book making you think you'll be better if you only bought or said...Sometimes tools can be maximized with useage. Knowing how one tool can do 50 different things is worth reading.

I learned about Becky Bailey through my daughters Kindergarten class as her entire school practices 'conscious discipline' among other brain based techniques. As a regular volunteer, I was so impressed every time I observed the teacher handle conflict--(while much of it, has to do with a very talented teacher who is well trained and educated in early childhood development), I began to learn that her technique was part of the 'conscious discipline' technique (Becky Bailey's school based program). I observed over and over how children were being taught to use their words (literally giving their feelings/emotions recognition) while walking them thru healthy conflict resolution. For me, its ideal to see character development, self esteem and healthy coping skills being developed so naturally at school. But when I finally got curious enough and started looking at Becky Bailey's books for parents, I had no idea of the impact her books would have in my home. I will say that it is challenging and difficult to read the book as it can feel like a strong criticism of many of the techniques we automatically and lovingly do with our children. But honestly, she makes a lot of sense and for me, it resonated deep in my core. She covers such a wide array of topics from discipline to just general self esteem building. She gets at the root of these issues. For example, she covers why building self esteem takes more than mindless compliments and judging comments-- that's "good" "great" "pretty" and so on. When she writes that children want to be noticed, not judged--it finally clarified to me how and why descriptive observation was more beneficial than "oh, that is so great, honey". Once again difficult to acknowledge how many times I was actually judging my daughter under the guise of building her confidence. Very powerful.There is so much more in this book. This book will challenge you to be a better parent. The author while at times is painfully direct with why certain techniques (you probably are doing) are ineffective, she does share her own struggles with the standards--no one has unlimited patience or can be perfect, every time. But I have to say if you read this book with an open mind, there is great information that will most definitely improve your parenting strategies. I have seen it almost immediately in my home. Also, I can recommend her " I love you rituals" book, another book that can improve and give you small meaningful connections with your child. Overall, great author, great book. I am grateful for the exposure to her work and highly recommend it!

I love this book. It addressed the language that I used with my son right on the spot and it gave concrete examples of what I need to improve on. Changing my language with my son has made him a new person and brought back lots of joy in our relationship. I was having trouble with my 4 year olds behavior and the book gave me great tips as well as thorough examples of situations. Would recommend to parents who have high spirited children whom are displaying rebellious behavior.

This book is a very good introduction to statistical mechanics (and some thermal physics topics are inside, too). The title is Thermal Physics, but I think this book is better read with the mindset of being able to learn enough to be able to read more advanced statistical mechanics textbooks.Most people struggle with understanding what exactly is entropy, what is the chemical potential, etc. This book does a very good job explaining how these are all related. You won't find advanced topics like the two-dimensional Ising model, but that's because this book isn't made for that. It's not a graduate level textbook. If you are looking for those types of topics, this is the wrong book. This book is for understanding the basic foundations of statistical mechanics and seeing how they are related to basic concepts like pressure, chemical potential, and temperature that the reader learned from chemistry courses or the like. Use this book to build intuition and to solve some classic "textbook problems" in statistical mechanics to prepare for more advanced textbooks.

This is an outstanding introductory book on thermal physics, with readability and clarity put at the forefront. The author painstakingly explains key derivations, delineating practically every step with a masterful combination of prose and equations. The chapters concerning the key fundamental results on statistical mechanics (the various ensembles and distribution statistics) are the best I've seen, blowing away McQuarrie (both his undergrad and grad level books) and Chandlers' texts. The graduate level books have their merits, either in depth and/or rigor, but on average, I think Schroeder's approach will allow the readers to get their feet wet the most effectively.It's perfect as either your first read or as a companion piece to more comprehensive, first year graduate level texts. There are very few critical typos, which I think is important for first time readers trying to parse the difference between the jargon (microstates, macrostates, particle states, system states, multiplicity, density of state...). In any case, the author makes great effort in his definitions of terms. You're in good hands, I promise.This book requires just a bit of multi variable calculus but no vector calculus is required. The various transforms (Legendre, Fourier, Laplace, etc.) are only mentioned briefly as means to obtain important results, but they are not a prerequisite. Familiarity with a very rudimentary level of wave function formalism of quantum mechanics becomes crucial in the later chapters.This text contains very few, completely solved examples. I actually liked this approach since it keeps the book slim and compact. The author explains on his website defending his choice. I think the effort he places in explaining the derivations of key ideas step by step more than makes up for the lack of an easily accessible solution manual.Finally, I like to point out that the price of this modern, hardcover text is close to one-third of its close relatives. Take a look at the price tags of Ahlfors, Baby Rudin, 2nd edition Sakurai, 3rd edition Boas, etc.... It's one of the most generously priced, recently produced hardcover science texts on the market today.Five stars all the way!

This was a required textbook for a junior level Thermodynamics class at my university. It showed up in perfect condition. I looked through the book and it looks well-written. It doesn't appear to be one of those tedious books that just have line after line of equations and little explanation. The author actually seems to have taken out the time to describe things narratively. There are a lot of equations, so it's not just some qualitative book. It has a mix of qualitative and qualitative and the sections seem to be natural. Certain methods of doing things appear to be collected in their own chapters and sections; and, terminology had bold faced words with a definition after them, which can be pretty rare to see in physics books. Introduces a concept, gives key words and definitions, describes them and how the pieces fit, and gives examples.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Thermodynamics and Statistical Mechanics class for which I bought this book, and the book itself contributed to that in no small way. This book is well written and has an appropriately conversational tone, making it easier to read than most books that I've had to buy for upper division physics classes.

I have great feelings about this book both ways. I've never found a better Thermal text. However, the text lacks context through out, and I found myself having to flip back and forth between sections and chapters in this book more than with any other physics text I've used. I just finished my fourth year in a Physics degree, with only three classes left to go, and this is my second least favorite book of all that I have used.

Explanations are logical and understandable.Good undergraduate text on thermo, covers all topics well. (I used this book as an additional text for my class rather than the recommended text which was skimpy on logic and explanations.)

Love the book because it is not like your usual boring textbook, it is written in a narrative way (kinda) and is very engaging with the student.Examples are embedded inside the text and thats also something i haven't seen from physic textbooks after studying physics for 4 years at Rutgers.Im a physics major and I recommend this book. ENJOY THE THERMO :)

I didn't have the pleasure of using this book as an undergraduate. As a graduate, I took a statistical mechanics course without knowledge of the undergraduate curriculum. So I used this book to catch up with the material I needed to know. This book made the topic so amazingly clear and easy to understand. Everything was thoroughly motivated and explained.
