Although I have been practicing meditation for decades, I still find it helpful to listen to guided meditations occassionally, and have a number of instructive CDs by various teachers. This CD set is an excellent addition to my library, one I will return to often.First of all, Kim Eng has the perfect voice for guided meditation. It is smooth, calm yet alert; she articulates each word with fluidity, effortlessly, and uses pauses naturally with perfect timing. Often meditation speakers attempt to be too slow or too relaxed; not so here. Ms. Eng is a gifted speaker.The material presented is extensive. The "meditation on the breath" is the foundation of Ms. Eng's meditation techniques and is a common meditative method. Preceded by brief introductions by Ms. Eng and Eckhart Tolle, this is the first one on CD #1. This guided meditation is mostly helpful for 'beginner level' meditators, or those who have been using a different meditative technique (such as mantra, conceptual, chanting, etc.). Next, Kim guides one effectively and thoroughly through an "inner body meditation," which will be helpful to beginners as well as more experienced meditators. Unique to Eckhart Tolle's teaching is Ms. Eng's "a meditation for dissolving the pain body." As Tolle readers know, the pain body is a unique and important concept of his teachings and something that many have grappled with for understanding. My only criticism with Ms. Eng's presentation is here, where she attempts to explain Tolle's teaching on this subject; her attempt feels slightly awkward. But that doesn't impact or spoil the meditation in any major way, and listeners/meditators will no doubt find this meditation useful in expanding upon their understanding of the concept.There are ten mini-meditations that one can use on the fly day in and day out and are extremely helpful. The meditation on nature is wonderful, and will help the listener/meditator experience the outdoors in new ways.This is a very worthwhile CD set, especially for the beginning meditator, and those who are Eckhart Tolle devotees. Even the experienced meditator will find material of value herein.
Absolutely love the meditations here and have shared my experience with many people. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because each meditation should be a separate track. It affects the user experience when you have to fast forward and try and find the beginning of a particular meditation. Otherwise, I love!
The CD's are very straightforward. There is an introduction by Eckhart Tolle that explains the purpose of meditation, what you may expect, and which styles will be covered in the CD. As you may know Eckhart wrote A New Earth to which this is a supplement specifically for Meditation but you don't need to have read the book to get something from it. I have read the book along with the Power of Now and both have been very enriching for me personally.The CD covers several different styles of meditation including: breath, sense perceptions, inner-body, dissolving the pain body, walking, nature, ten mini-meditations, and entering sleep consciously (which I don't really understand/comprehend yet). Kim Eng's voice is great. I've just recently dabbled in meditation and have heard my share of narrators, her voice really resonates with me. She's easy to follow, slow (but not too slow), deliberate, and with a subtle strength to her voice. There are several tracks that will explain the concepts of meditations that people may not be familiar with such as: what is the inner body, why we meditate, etc.If you're looking for a good meditation kit this, for me, has been a great purchase.
Being a huge fan of Eckhart, his philosophy, his books, CDs, etc., I decided to try Kim Eng's "Meditations For a New Earth" CD set. In the beginning, Kim's inflections took some time to adjust to, but soon enough I found myself playing her CD every night while laying in bed before sleep. I have yet to reach the end of either of her CDs before ... ZZZZzzzzWhile falling asleep is not the intended purpose of meditation CDs, and hardly constitutes "meditation," I find that I sleep better and wake up more relaxed when I fall asleep to one.I have also played them on occasion when doing housework or other activities, and I like the awareness I am absorbing about how any daily activity can become a "meditation" when you bring Presence to whatever you are doing. Anything that brings more Presence to life, is, in my opinion, worth its weight in gold.I intend to use her CDs for more formal meditation sessions (sitting upright without distraction) as well as driving in my car. Since listening to Kim Eng's "Meditations for A New Earth," I'm able to concentrate on my job without needing to jump out of my chair every few minutes. Just to sit at my desk for a couple of hours at a time feels like some kind of "new me"! I feel more - what's the word? - PRESENT, solid, together, or something. Whatever it is, it's good!Kim's voice is very pleasant to listen to. She leaves beautiful spaces between her words, just enough time for my mind to wander a bit before she gently guides me back to the breath or inner body. There's no music in the background, just the soothing combination of silence and the sound of her voice.If you've had difficulty sustaining a present moment awareness, Eckhart Tolle's DVD, "Awakening in the Now," and Kim's CD are a perfect combination to help turn your attention to the Now more often and to sustain it longer, too - a highly recommended combination!
I love her voice, her words, she makes me feel calm. I've never successfully meditated before and she makes it easy.
